Lynn
R. Gripon 1925-2000, a native of Houston, Texas left this beautiful
world for great adventure on September 9, 2000 at the age of 74
years. League City, Texas was his home for 50 years. He was preceded
by his wonderful parents, Lynn and Lily Gripon.
Lynn is survived by his wife Lorene, daughters, Sherri, Denise and
sons Greg and Randy, grandchildren, Jeff, Derek, Kara, Ryan, Nicole,
Justin and Ashley. He lived in the Woodland Heights of Houston,
attended St. Marks Methodist Church, Travis Elementary School, Hogg
Jr. High and Reagan High School from which he graduated in 1943.
There he was a member of Scout Troop 75 where he attained the rank
of Eagle Scout. Lynn was also a member of the football and track
teams at Reagan High School. In the fall of 1943, he entered Texas
A & M University and was a member of the Class of 1947. After
a tour of duty in the Army, he married Lorene Harris in San Jose,
California and then resumed his education at Texas A & M. Lynn
graduated in 1949 with a degree in Landscape Architecture. After
a year in California, Lynn & Lorene moved back to League City
Texas where they established Lynn's Landscaping and Garden Center
on their five acres. Lynn employed hundreds of people during his
lifetime, making the Bay Area more beautiful was his chief concern.
Most of the Live Oaks planted on Main Street west of Highway 3 were
planted by Lynn and his son Greg.
Lynn was devoted to serving his community and profession. Some
of the many activities and positions in which he was involved include:
Pres. of Clear Creek High School Wild Cat Booster Club, Pres. of
Ross Elementary School's first PTA, Pres. League City Lions Club
where he received the Melvin Jones Award, Chairman of the first
League City Parks Board, Pres. of Galveston County A & M Club,
Pres. of Texas Assoc. of Nurserymen - Region II, Chairman of the
Adm. Board of the League City Methodist Church, Director of Bay
Area Chamber of Commerce, Century Club Member of Texas A & M
Member of the 12th Man Foundation of Texas A & M, Honorary member
of the League City Garden Club, and Member of the League City Clean
and Green Environmental Association.
Things that he believed in and experienced: Be Positive, Never
accept defeat, Work and stand up for what you believe, Volunteer
to help, Keep healthy, Be forgiving and loving, No one has all the
answers, We all do dumb things and Do your share and be grateful.
